Picanol Group completes a unique weaving-shuttle headquarters with SCIA and 5-pile massifs supporting over 2000 kN per pile

Picanol Group, a weaving machine manufacturer based in Belgium, faced the challenge of constructing a new head office with a unique elliptical, shuttle-like shape. This unconventional design presented complex structural modeling and analysis difficulties, particularly with variable spans and the need for stable core structures. To overcome these challenges, Picanol's engineering partner, MV Engineering, utilized SCIA's structural analysis software, SCIA Engineer.

The solution from SCIA enabled the modeling of the complex geometry and the design of post-tensioned floors. SCIA Engineer's tools were used to analyze core deformations, determine reinforcement via its 2D concrete design module, and seamlessly export the model to Tekla for BIM collaboration. This efficient process was crucial for the successful realization of the structurally sound and unique building within a limited timeframe, ultimately limiting foundation piles through the use of heavy massifs.
