Bochum University of Applied Sciences wins 3rd place with SCIA for a parametric timber roof project

The customer is Bochum University of Applied Sciences. The challenge was to design a column-free, adaptable timber roof structure between two campus buildings, requiring a method for easy optimization without complex 3D modelling and ensuring structural integrity under various loads.

The solution, implemented using SCIA Engineer software, involved a parametric design workflow. SCIA's platform, integrated via the Koala plugin, allowed for automatic structural analysis, load distribution, and optimization of the roof framework. This approach by SCIA enabled detailed analysis with second-order effects, led to a simplified manufacturing process, and resulted in the student's project earning third place in the SCIA Student Contest 2024.
