BESIX delivers Terraced Tower’s 100 m, 32-floor Rotterdam landmark with SCIA

The customer, BESIX, a major Belgian construction group, faced significant engineering challenges while constructing the Terraced Tower in Rotterdam. The project's unique sloping design with a large cantilever, high concrete quality requirements, and an extremely constrained inner-city site required advanced structural analysis. BESIX used SCIA Engineer software from vendor SCIA to design the complex structure and manage these challenges effectively.

The solution implemented by SCIA allowed BESIX to efficiently calculate high-grade concrete, model numerous temporary construction phases, and analyze second-order effects and stability. Using SCIA Engineer's automated tools, including parametric modeling and stability analysis, the team saved considerable time on reinforcement design and could focus on project coordination. This resulted in the successful realization of the 40,000 m² tower, which went on to win the SCIA User Contest 2020 in its category.
