Baudin Chateauneuf models a 3,500 m² aquarium with SCIA Engineer

The customer, Baudin Chateauneuf, a French construction group, faced a challenge in designing a complex coastal aquarium structure. The project combined concrete and steel elements and was highly asymmetrical, which complicated the global stability analysis and amplified internal forces, especially under seismic loads. They utilized SCIA Engineer software from vendor SCIA for this structural engineering task.

SCIA provided a solution where the stability analysis was used to determine buckling lengths. The model was refined with an increased number of vibration modes to ensure proper mass participation for seismic analysis, and the stiffness of semi-rigid connections was incorporated. SCIA's customer service was notably supportive in helping resolve modelling issues. This allowed for an optimized design that simplified connections and aided the structure's erection.
