Baldinistudio models a 95% timber passive house with SCIA

The customer, Baldinistudio, faced the complex structural design challenge of a unique passive house built primarily from timber and hempcrete. Their project required an integral model to manage a challenging spatial puzzle, including difficult soil conditions and the need for large free spans without traditional beams. They utilized SCIA Engineer from vendor SCIA to engineer the structure and create a powerful communication tool for the entire design team.

The solution from SCIA involved creating one integral calculation model in SCIA Engineer for the entire building. This allowed for easy modeling of the complex design, quick calculation of variants, and the use of orthotropy to direct loads effectively. The result was an efficient design process that avoided work duplication and the risk of inconsistent models, ultimately leading to the project's nomination for the National Timber Building Prize 2021.
