Case Study: U.S. Department of Energy achieves stronger energy cybersecurity with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL)

A Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) Case Study

Preview of the U.S. Department of Energy Case Study

When It Comes to National Defense, a Reliable And Resilient Energy Supply is Critical

The U.S. Department of Energy needed a way to help federal facilities that depend on the commercial power grid better withstand cyberattacks and other disruptions. Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) supported the effort as part of a DOE-led pilot to protect critical energy infrastructure at sites serving the Department of Defense, Veterans Administration, and Department of Homeland Security.

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) helped deploy and test a new protective cybersecurity technology for electricity delivery that detects and stops unauthorized grid traffic in real time. The pilot was planned for four sites, with permanent installation by 2020, and aimed to improve energy resiliency, streamline the Authority to Operate process, and create a deployable model for other critical government and private-sector facilities.
