Western Farmers Electric Cooperative completes a wind power switching station cutover with SEL
Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) faced a challenge when it needed to connect a new wind power generation site to its grid but the nearest substation was at capacity. They needed to build a larger switching station with minimal disruption and under tight deadlines. They partnered with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) for its comprehensive substation engineering services.
SEL managed the entire project, providing engineering, procurement, and construction management. Despite complications from the COVID-19 pandemic, SEL implemented a staged cutover process. This resulted in a safe and reliable interconnection with no interruption to service, successfully bringing the new wind power generation online for WFEC.
