McHenry Community High School - Customer Case Study

McHenry Community High School (McHenry Community High School District 156) serves about 2,300 students in McHenry, IL. Facing a 1:1 device initiative in 2016, leadership developed a broader innovation plan to modernize instruction, boost engagement, increase college-and-career readiness, and foster creativity—needs that required both hardware and a robust LMS. A committee of teachers, administrators and parents evaluated free and paid LMS options, shortlisted Schoology, Canvas, Haiku and Blackboard, and after vendor demos Schoology won with 70% of the vote and a board-approved five-year contract.

McHenry rolled out Schoology to its technology team and seven Digital Literacy Coaches who led ongoing training and support. The platform’s social-media-like interface and integrations (Infinite Campus, Turnitin, Google Drive, etc.) made adoption easy, centralized PLC collaboration, enabled instant teacher–student communication, and let students participate and ask questions remotely—strengthening instruction, collaboration, and continuity across the district.
