Creating Statewide Dual Certification Programs using Schoology

CESA 3, led by Executive Director Jamie Nutter, launched the 2020/20 initiative to expand dual-credit opportunities so students could graduate with both a diploma and a post-secondary credential. He faced major hurdles: many districts were underfunded, few had coordinators experienced in dual programs, and Wisconsin’s rural geography made connecting K–12 and higher education partners difficult.

CESA 3 chose Schoology as a standardized LMS—supported by group licensing to make it affordable—and used the platform to centralize curriculum, embed instructional apps, and connect districts and colleges. The result: students can take courses across districts and multiple higher-ed institutions to earn dual credentials, while districts use Schoology for wider collaboration and professional development, creating a more cohesive statewide program.
