Case Study: Harlem Academy achieves streamlined grading and enhanced instruction with Schoology

A Schoology Case Study

Preview of the Harlem Academy Case Study

A Big Leap for a Small School

Harlem Academy, an independent 1–8 school founded in 2004 that provides extensive scholarships to high-potential students, rebranded in 2010 and wanted a new website with an intranet to share information across the school. After evaluating vendors, Communications Director Britta Blodgett chose Schoology—recommended by their web partner Schoolyard—for its features, usability, and strong customer support, and piloted the Learning Management System in grades 5–8.

Teachers and students adopted Schoology quickly, streamlining administrative tasks (automatic grading, a built-in gradebook, and Google Calendar integration) and improving instruction through features like discussion-enabled video, whiteboard “do now” postings, and quiz automation. The platform enabled a flipped-math model with Khan Academy, increased transparency with parents, saved staff time, and will be expanded to the lower school to automate attendance and grades across the whole school.
