Case Study: Samsung SDI cuts equipment-related accidents by 50% and secures power reliability with Schneider Electric EcoStruxure

A Schneider Electric Case Study

Preview of the Samsung SDI Case Study

Together, Samsung SDI and Schneider Electric are creating next-generation manufacturing

Samsung SDI, a global leader in lithium‑ion batteries with a major Cheonan manufacturing plant, faced frequent production risks from South Korea’s centralized power system — including voltage drops and 3–4 annual outages that could halt sensitive equipment. To improve safety and uptime, Samsung SDI partnered with Schneider Electric and adopted its EcoStruxure‑enabled power solutions, notably Symmetra PX and Galaxy UPS systems, PowerLogic ION7650 PQ meters, DC circuit breakers and remote monitoring tools.

Schneider Electric installed about 60 UPS units, 4 power‑quality meters, 3 DC circuit breakers and integrated remote HMI monitoring under its EcoStruxure architecture, plus 24/7 service support. The deployment stabilized power supply, helped eliminate critical UPS failures, cut accidents from defective equipment or improper operation by roughly 50%, mitigated the impact of the 3–4 annual outages, and delivered measurable cost and energy‑use improvements for Samsung SDI.
