Telefónica built the high‑density Alcalá data center outside Madrid to consolidate capacity, meet soaring customer demand (14 kW per rack), and improve security, scalability, efficiency and sustainability. To achieve these goals Telefónica engaged Schneider Electric, leveraging its EcoStruxure platform and services (including Remote Monitoring Services, LV Electric Boxes, Building Lighting, UPS and the Andover Continuum BMS).

Schneider Electric deployed EcoStruxure apps, analytics and connected products—installing low‑voltage electrical boxes, trays and batteries, a UPS and the Andover Continuum building management solution with remote monitoring—to enable real‑time status monitoring of ~45,000 elements, early failure detection and rapid resolution. The Schneider Electric solution cut energy usage and CO2 emissions, allowed new servers to be connected without downtime, and delivered a 60% reduction in energy costs versus traditional DCIM and the Gold Tier IV benchmark.
