Sustainable future thanks to intelligent energy monitoring - the University of Lausanne becomes a role model with EcoStruxuroTM Power

The University of Lausanne, a campus of about 15,000 students and 4,900 staff across 40 buildings with roughly 28 GWh electrical and 20 GWh thermal annual consumption, needed reliable, real‑time energy data to meet Switzerland’s 2000‑watt society targets. Until recently the Unibat team collected readings from over 250 meters by hand and analyzed them in Excel; Schneider Electric was brought in to provide EcoStruxure Power (including EcoStruxure Facility Expert - Energy and networked meters/gateways) to deliver continuous monitoring and actionable data.

Schneider Electric deployed the EcoStruxure Power architecture—networked meters, communication gateways, cloud analytics and automated alarms—giving Unibat holistic, real‑time energy management and Smart Data accessible from any device. The solution now digitally monitors 16 priority buildings (≈90% of campus consumption), enabled automated shutdowns of nonessential loads, and helped reduce heat consumption by 11% over four years; the University of Lausanne became the first certified 2000‑watt transformation site in French‑speaking Switzerland and is extending Schneider Electric’s monitoring across the campus.
