Case Study: ArcelorMittal achieves higher steel quality, improved safety and 24/7 operations with Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure Plant

A Schneider Electric Case Study

Preview of the ArcelorMittal Case Study

How EcoStruxureTM Plant is enhancing steel quality and working conditions at the largest steelworks in Western Europe

ArcelorMittal’s Dunkirk steelworks, the largest steel factory in Western Europe producing 7 million tons of steel a year, needed better control of dust emissions and greater operational flexibility to avoid costly shutdowns during maintenance and modernization. To address air quality, safety and continuity challenges, ArcelorMittal partnered with Schneider Electric and deployed EcoStruxure™ Plant architecture, leveraging the Modicon M580 Ethernet programmable controller.

Schneider Electric’s IoT-enabled EcoStruxure Plant put the Modicon M580 at the edge to provide real-time dust monitoring, Change Configuration on the Fly and precise, data-driven supervision of the second-phase dusting process. The solution enabled targeted maintenance without stopping production, resulting in more consistent steel quality, improved employee safety, continuous 24/7 operations and increased process reliability and productivity.
