Case Study: GreenAlp achieves an SF6-free, greener and more digital distribution network with Schneider Electric EcoStruxure

A Schneider Electric Case Study

How EcoStruxureTM for Electricity Companies turns a city district greener

GreenAlp, the Grenoble-based electric distribution operator serving more than 120,000 customers, faced aging MV/LV substations and strong sustainability and service-continuity ambitions. To reduce greenhouse-gas impact from legacy SF6-filled equipment and gain real-time visibility into network health, GreenAlp partnered with Schneider Electric to pilot its EcoStruxure-enabled, SF6-free medium-voltage switchgear (pure-air insulation with Shunt Vacuum Interruption).

Schneider Electric delivered the SF6-free MV switchgear with built-in sensors and digital monitoring in a Grenoble eco‑neighborhood pilot. The solution eliminated SF6 in the replaced equipment while keeping the same footprint, provided real-time temperature, humidity and flooding data for predictive asset management, and reduced maintenance needs (“almost no maintenance”), improving uptime and lowering maintenance costs—advancing GreenAlp’s modernization and sustainability goals.
