Fonterra, New Zealand’s largest dairy producer and the world’s largest dairy exporter, faced the challenge of delivering consistent, time‑critical milk processing across many co‑operatives while meeting the highest hygiene, quality and sustainability standards. To manage growth, downtime risk and industrial efficiency, Fonterra engaged Schneider Electric and its EcoStruxure portfolio as a trusted electrical and digital partner.

Schneider Electric delivered a complete EcoStruxure solution—Apps, Analytics & Services (including lifecycle management and SCADA) and Connected Products (drives, motor control, MV/LV distribution, lighting control, UPS and more)—to standardize and streamline electrical distribution and support a new greenfield site. The Darfield facility has become the world’s largest, most efficient dairy plant: Darfield 2 consumes 4.2–4.4 million litres of milk per day and produces over 30 tons of whole milk powder per hour, and the long‑standing Schneider Electric–Fonterra relationship now accounts for roughly 5% of Schneider Electric New Zealand’s turnover.
