A Schneider Electric Case Study
EAM Netz, a 100% municipal grid operator serving 1.4 million people across a 50,000‑kilometer electricity and gas network with 71 substations and 6,500 switching stations, needed to decarbonize its medium‑voltage distribution, integrate growing renewable generation, and get ahead of the EU F‑gas phase‑out. To meet these goals the company launched a project with Schneider Electric to trial and deploy SF₆‑free MV switchgear—GM AirSeT—at its Dörnhagen substation.
Schneider Electric delivered GM AirSeT, an SF₆‑free, pure‑air insulated MV switchgear with vacuum interruption and digital IoT monitoring, which integrated into EAM Netz’s existing infrastructure without costly modifications. The implementation gives EAM Netz early compliance with the EU F‑gas ban (effective 2026), reduces the network’s CO₂e footprint, and improves operational reliability through real‑time health monitoring—minimizing failure risk and strengthening the company’s position as a regional sustainability leader.
