China Unicom Relies on Schneider Electric to Operate Their Hyperscale Data Centers

China Unicom Cloud Data, the cloud and big‑data arm of China Unicom, is building hyperscale and regional data centers across China (including the massive Hohhot and Langfang sites) but faced challenges in scaling reliable, efficient 24/7 operations — from immature business models and supply chains to low IT infrastructure operations efficiency. To address these risks and preserve high energy efficiency and low PUE, China Unicom Cloud Data engaged Schneider Electric for onsite expertise and Critical Facility Operation services, supported by EcoStruxure methodologies.

Schneider Electric implemented a customized operations and maintenance program, supplied technical specifications and monitoring guidance, and outsourced on‑site critical power operations (utility to rack, UPS, generators and DC systems) with 108 experts providing 24/7 support (scaling to 170). As a result, Schneider Electric helped the sites meet TIA‑942 Rating 3 (and Rating 4 for the power system), achieve 100% electric power system uptime, deliver zero interruptions to key workloads during peak events, and realize up to 30% savings in operating costs.
