Austin Energy Leverages EcoStruxure for Utility Solution to Improve Energy Efficiency

Austin Energy, the eighth-largest community-owned utility in the U.S. serving over a million customers in and around Austin, needed to turn big data into actionable intelligence, improve reliability and customer service, and reduce outages caused by severe weather. To build a safer, stronger and more resilient grid, Austin Energy engaged Schneider Electric and its EcoStruxure™ for Utility solution to implement an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS).

Schneider Electric deployed EcoStruxure ADMS—along with EcoStruxure Substation Operation and Easergy T200—integrating DMS, OMS and DSCADA and advanced applications such as IVVC, FLISR and Volt‑VAR optimization to provide real‑time visibility and automated fault isolation. The rollout, completed in under two years, delivered a fast, highly reliable control‑room platform that managed the summer storm season, improved restoration and situational awareness, reduced peak demand and system losses, and helped Austin Energy achieve an overall customer satisfaction level of 82%.
