Restaurant Scheduling Software Improves Communication and Customer Service

North Shore Grill, an independent full-service restaurant in Lakeville, NY, struggled with weekly scheduling managed via Excel and a paper time-off sheet. Manager Micah Vitale found that employees calling or stopping by to check schedules distracted hosts and servers, caused communication errors, wrong shifts and no-shows, and disrupted service during busy periods.

In January 2012 North Shore Grill adopted ScheduleBase, an online scheduling tool that lets managers post schedules and employees submit availability and time-off requests by email, text or mobile. The system was easy to learn, staff liked it, and the restaurant eliminated routine schedule calls and floor disruptions—saving manager time and improving communication and customer service.
