Ultra-Fast Self-Scanning App Increases Store Sales by 5%

AEON Retail, Japan’s largest retail corporation, wanted to improve its self-scanning and self-checkout experience after earlier tablet-based solutions fell short and shoppers struggled to scan difficult barcodes in poor lighting, on curved surfaces, or on damaged packaging. To support contact-free shopping during the pandemic, AEON partnered with Scandit to power its RegiGo mobile shopping app with smartphone scanning.

Scandit implemented a high-performance barcode scanning solution for RegiGo, which AEON rolled out in 24 stores across Japan. The app improved ease of use and shopper engagement, contributing to a 35% improvement in customer acceptance, over 67% retention, and a 5% increase in store sales, while also reducing checkout wait times and freeing staff for other tasks.
