Oakland Unified School District Streamlines Asset Tracking with Salesforce Mobile App and Scandit Keyboard Wedge

Oakland Unified School District needed a better way to track more than 3,000 FOSS science kit boxes as they moved from its warehouse to schools and classrooms. Although a Salesforce mobile app helped, staff still had to manually type unique codes for each asset, creating extra work and the risk of errors. Scandit was brought in to add high-performance barcode scanning to the workflow.

Scandit implemented its Keyboard Wedge solution, enabling OUSD to scan asset barcodes directly on employees’ own smart devices without back-end integration. With Scandit, Oakland Unified School District eliminated manual tracking steps and reduced errors, and it is on track to save more than 500 hours per year of science teacher leaders’ time across 54 schools.
