METRO, a leading wholesale and food retailer in Germany, wanted to make its customers’ individual purchase prices visible while shopping in-store. Using the Scandit Barcode Scanner SDK in the METRO Companion mobile app, METRO aimed to replace the delay of seeing discounts only at checkout with real-time pricing and product information.

Scandit’s barcode scanning and MatrixScan AR technology enabled fast, reliable scanning even in poor lighting, and the app now shows personal prices, savings, product details, availability, and shopping basket totals. The result was a better shopping experience, stronger customer service, and improved customer satisfaction and loyalty, with METRO and Scandit recognized with the Retail Technology Award Europe for Best Customer Experience.
