Hermes UK Lowers Last Mile Delivery Costs with Scandit Software Solution

Hermes UK, one of the UK’s largest parcel companies, needed to modernize last-mile delivery and proof-of-delivery operations while reducing the high cost and inconvenience of legacy scanning hardware. As part of its Digital Futures transformation, Hermes worked with Scandit to replace dedicated barcode scanners with a smartphone-based solution for couriers.

Scandit provided barcode scanning software through the Scandit Barcode SDK, enabling Hermes couriers to scan parcels quickly and accurately on Samsung XCover 4 smartphones, even in poor lighting or with damaged labels. The rollout began with about 4,000 couriers and is set to replace more than 15,000 devices over three years, lowering total cost of ownership and moving Hermes toward a BYOD model while supporting a faster, more flexible delivery experience.
