Case Study: Guitar Center achieves a better omnichannel shopping experience with Scandit barcode scanning

A Scandit Case Study

Preview of the Guitar Center Case Study

Guitar Center customers scan barcodes using their mobile phones and instantly view product reviews

Guitar Center wanted to improve its omnichannel in-store experience by giving shoppers real-time product information on their phones. The retailer needed a mobile self-scanning app that could surface reviews, videos, ratings, and product details in the aisle, but its initial open-source barcode reading approach struggled with long and varied barcodes. Scandit helped Guitar Center meet this challenge with barcode scanning for its mobile shopping app.

Using Scandit, Guitar Center launched an app that lets customers scan barcodes and instantly view reviews, videos, customer ratings, related products, inventory availability, and purchasing options. The rollout tested successfully across dozens of devices and hundreds of barcodes, and customer response was extremely positive. Scandit’s solution enabled fast, reliable scanning and helped turn the app into a successful digital shopping experience in-store, with even employees benefiting during a power outage.
