SFR Relies on Scality RING for Multiple Applications

SFR, France’s leading alternative telecom operator serving more than 21 million customers, needed to consolidate internal storage for backup and archiving and to support a growing portfolio of cloud services. To meet demands for scalability, low TCO and multiple access interfaces, SFR selected Scality’s software-defined storage platform, the Scality RING.

Scality implemented the RING as a single, hardware-agnostic shared storage environment powering SFR Backup, SFR Sync, CDN and other public and private services, using five file/object connectors. The deployment (started in 2010 for internal services, expanded to external services in 2012 and CDN in 2014) now stores 5 PB and 1.3+ billion objects, serves over a million users across more than a dozen RING-based apps, reduced internal storage operating costs, and enabled new revenue-generating services — all while scaling elastically and meeting performance and security requirements.
