Case Study: Natixis achieves scalable, low-TCO petabyte backups and 100% data recovery with Scality RING

A Scality Case Study

Scality RING is Right on the Money for Natixis

Natixis, the international corporate, investment, insurance and financial-services arm of Groupe BPCE, was facing petabyte-scale backup growth, strained RAID-based legacy storage, and strict regulatory retention and recovery requirements. In 2015 they evaluated software-defined storage and chose Scality’s RING as their backup target to replace the legacy system and support both file and object workflows.

Scality deployed RING across a three-site stretched cluster (initially a 2PB license on Cisco UCS S3260s, later expanded to protect 5PB on 48 UCS nodes with 8.7PB raw), integrated with IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM) and Rubrik via S3, and enabled an S3-as-a-service for internal teams. The Scality solution delivered measurable wins—100% data recovery, about 30% better throughput versus the prior system, lower TCO and seamless scalability—allowing Natixis to consolidate storage and continue expanding confidently.
