Scality RING Ensures Data Availability for World’s Largest Electric Utility

Électricité de France (EDF), a global energy company, needed to eliminate disruptive data outages after a previous storage failure left customer service unable to access records for three days. To ensure continuous access to critical customer, engineering and compliance data, EDF selected Scality and deployed Scality RING software-defined storage.

Scality implemented a geo-distributed Scality RING across two datacenters (serving backup via AFTD with Dell EMC NetWorker and as a Big Data lake with ElasticSearch), delivering non‑disruptive scalability and the ability to tolerate loss of an entire datacenter and part of another. The Scality solution achieved measurable impact: zero RPO for backups, a 50% reduction in total cost of ownership versus competitors, broader adoption across use cases, and an innovation award for EDF’s IT team.
