Private “health cloud” secures growing volumes of data

Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Marseille (AP‑HM), the third largest academic hospital group in France, needed to store and protect rapidly growing volumes of medical imaging and archival data while avoiding disruptive migrations and vendor lock‑in. With legacy Centera/NAS systems reaching end‑of‑life and data growth accelerating to roughly 40 TB/year (exceeding half a petabyte by 2017), AP‑HM selected Scality and its Scality RING software‑defined storage to meet strict protocol, security and availability requirements.

Scality deployed a geo‑distributed Scality RING across three data centers (running on standard HPE servers) and integrated it with GE PACS and Commvault backup, delivering always‑on access, multi‑site resiliency (tolerating an entire data‑center loss plus a drive) and easy scalability. The Scality solution eliminated future migrations, supported growing departmental workloads (including genomics), achieved essentially 100% availability for clinicians, and lowered total cost of ownership while providing ongoing, responsive support from Scality.
