Case Study: University Hospital Basel achieves a scalable, universal medical archive for personalized cancer research with Scality RING

A Scality Case Study

Preview of the University Hospital Basel Case Study

Pioneering research hospital turns big data into an asset for fighting cancer and other complex diseases

University Hospital Basel needed a way to manage and preserve massive, diverse clinical data — from genetic sequences and radiology images to surgical video — for decades to support faster diagnoses and personalized cancer research. To replace fragmented storage systems that had volume limits of about 300 GB and slowed retrieval, the hospital selected Scality (deploying Scality RING alongside HPE Apollo 4510 systems) to build a universal, private-cloud medical archive.

Scality deployed Scality RING across three data centers on HPE Apollo 4510 hardware, delivering a single, secure archive that simplifies access to hundreds of terabytes of clinical and research data, enables collaboration, and supports AI-driven analysis. The Scality solution scales online by adding nodes, enforces long-term retention (read-only policies), and has removed prior capacity and retrieval bottlenecks — giving researchers and clinicians instant access to the data they need to advance personalized treatments.
