A Scality Case Study
Natixis, the international financing and financial services arm of Groupe BPCE, faced the challenge of backing up and storing more than a petabyte of unstructured data using legacy RAID/controller-based arrays that lacked the durability, multi-site protection and operational simplicity they needed. Seeking cost-effective, scalable backup with enterprise-grade durability, rapid recovery and higher throughput, Natixis evaluated software-defined object storage and selected Scality RING.
Scality implemented a geo-distributed Scality RING (3 PB stretched across three sites) after a sub-30‑day POC that integrated with IBM TSM and showed up to 30% better throughput versus the prior solution. In production since April 2016, the RING used NFS connectors to migrate 1.2 PB in three months and deliver 500 MB/s throughput, while delivering greater resiliency (tolerating up to five simultaneous disk failures), erasure-coding and self-healing at ~4 TB/hour—significantly improving recovery, durability and operational efficiency for Natixis.
