Case Study: Irish Prison Service achieves secure, scalable preservation and automated lifecycle management of surveillance video with Scality

A Scality Case Study

Multi-petabytes of storage to help ensure the safety and security of inmates and staff

The Irish Prison Service, which operates roughly 5,000 cameras across 12 facilities, needed a secure, scalable way to retain high‑definition surveillance video for the mandatory retention period of four years and one day. Their existing array was near capacity and lacked an auditable, automated deletion process. Scality (Scality RING), working with HPE and CTERA, was selected to address the challenge.

Scality deployed two Scality RING clouds on HPE Apollo 4200 systems for long‑term retention, with HPE ProLiant servers and CTERA managing local capture and encrypted transfers. The solution delivers 300 TB usable today and can scale to multiple petabytes, provides replication between sites, faster transfers, granular access controls, and automated lifecycle deletion with email alerts. Scality’s implementation improved reliability and security, streamlined administration so IT staff can focus on other projects, and instituted a measurable, auditable deletion process to control storage growth.
