Host Europe GmbH, the third-largest web hosting provider in the German market, needed a cost-effective, highly scalable cloud storage service for backup and multi-tenant use that would integrate with existing provisioning, billing and operations tools while guaranteeing long-term data durability and confidentiality. After evaluating multiple vendors, Host Europe selected Scality and its Scality RING solution to meet strict cost targets (well below €0.10/GB/month), ease of integration, and massive scale requirements.

Scality deployed Scality RING on Dell servers and completed implementation in three months, putting the service into production in January 2011. The RING met Host Europe’s requirements—handling very large and very small files, surviving disk/server/network failures with no data loss, integrating with existing tools, and allowing non-disruptive hardware scaling—delivering a profitable cost structure and easy, linear growth to hundreds of TBs or multiple PBs.
