Frontline officers are leveraging new data insights to better serve their community

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) needed to modernize its legacy storage environment to support rapidly growing volumes of digital evidence, CCTV video, audio recordings, and remote-work collaboration tools. With inadequate provisioning and long procurement cycles, the old system could not keep up with the organization’s need for agile, scalable, and cost-effective data storage.

EPS implemented Scality RING software-defined storage on the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform, along with HPE storage systems and Veeam for backup. With the Scality solution, EPS is storing 1.4 PB of data, expects to save about CAD $2 million over five years, and reduced backup times from 13 hours to 3 hours—a 76.9% improvement—while gaining scalable, reliable performance for future unstructured data growth.
