Sorbonne University - Customer Case Study

Sorbonne University, a major public research university in Paris, needed a highly scalable and reliable video conferencing solution to ensure service continuity for over 8,000 concurrent users during the COVID-19 pandemic. To address this challenge, they partnered with Scaleway and their vendor Arawa to implement a solution using Scaleway Virtual Instances.

The solution involved deploying a BigBlueButton platform supported by over 80 Scaleway Elements GP1-S Virtual Instances and a ScaleLite load balancer. This architecture, integrated with the university's existing Moodle systems, provided a secure, GDPR-compliant, and scalable infrastructure. The platform successfully handled peaks of 1,500 users, with the confidence from Scaleway's infrastructure to effortlessly scale up to 8,000 users and beyond as needed.
