A Scaleway Case Study
Aternos, a leader in on-demand Minecraft game servers, faced a challenge with its highly fluctuating user demand. Their reliance on physical, on-site servers was not sustainable, leading to long wait times during peak usage and underutilized resources during quieter periods. To achieve better scalability, Aternos turned to cloud solutions from vendor Scaleway, specifically its virtual instances and Elastic Metal servers.
The solution implemented by Scaleway provided the elasticity Aternos required. Using Scaleway's virtual instances and Elastic Metal servers, Aternos gained 100% dedicated resources for intensive workloads, allowing them to dynamically deploy servers to handle traffic spikes. This resulted in a massive improvement, reducing waiting times for users from several hours to just a few minutes. Scaleway's infrastructure enabled Aternos to efficiently host up to 100,000 simultaneous Minecraft servers, with over 500 elastic metal servers and 3,000 instances launched daily at peak.
