Animath, a French non-profit association promoting mathematics for young adults, faced the challenge of transforming its largest annual event, the Salon Culture & Jeux Mathématiques, into a fully virtual experience for 40,000 attendees due to COVID-19 lockdowns. They needed a scalable, GDPR-compliant solution hosted in France to ensure data privacy and handle significant video conferencing demands.

Scaleway provided the solution with its General Purpose Virtual Instances. Animath deployed BigBlueButton on three GP1-XL instances, creating a stable and highly available environment that successfully supported the five-day event. The setup worked so well that they could scale down the instances on the second day. This successful migration led Animath to move its entire infrastructure to Scaleway, ensuring data protection and providing the flexibility to scale resources as needed for future virtual learning projects.
