A Scale Computing Case Study
Toccoa Falls College, a Christian liberal arts college in Toccoa Falls, GA with about 800 full‑time students and a small IT team, was running roughly 20 Windows VMs and a public web server on three VMware hosts backed by an HP SAN. Hosts were maxed on CPU/RAM, the SAN was an I/O bottleneck, and plans to expand virtual desktops combined with steep replacement and VMware licensing costs made a traditional refresh unaffordable and operationally complex for the lean IT staff.
The college moved to a 4‑node Scale Computing HC3 hyper‑converged system and used HC3 Move for V2V migration. The converged solution provided built‑in high availability, a simple browser‑based management interface, and much better I/O performance, allowing TFC to run all 20 VMs (including NComputing virtual desktops) with significantly lower cost—about two‑thirds of the VMware+SAN upgrade price—and headroom to double their virtual desktop rollout.
