A Scale Computing Case Study
Stoke Park School and Community Technology College, a mixed comprehensive in Coventry serving about 1,100 pupils and 200 staff with a four-person IT team, was running an ageing VMware 4.1 environment that required an imminent licence upgrade and additional storage. The school needed to maintain the high availability and scalability of its virtual infrastructure (supporting SharePoint, SIMS, AD, SQL, etc.) without adding complexity or costly training for staff.
The school replaced VMware with Scale Computing’s HC3 hyperconverged platform (a three-node cluster), which combines compute, storage and virtualization under a single, browser-based interface. The solution was quick to deploy (installed within a day, VMs running within an hour), provides automatic high availability and self-healing (seamless drive-failure recovery), eliminates separate licensing and external storage, and scales simply by adding nodes—reducing admin overhead and enabling IT staff to focus on other initiatives while supporting the school’s ICT objectives.
