Merida Bicycles Ltd. - Customer Case Study

Merida Bicycles Ltd., a Nottingham-based importer and retailer of bicycles with 20 employees and a single IT generalist, faced aging Microsoft servers and needed to bring high availability to its infrastructure. Traditional virtualization options (Hyper‑V plus separate servers and SAN) promised HA but were too complex and costly for a small team to implement and support.

Merida deployed Scale Computing’s HC3 “datacentre‑in‑a‑box,” an integrated server, storage and hypervisor appliance with no separate licensing or external SAN required. The solution—starting under £19,500—made virtualization simple for one IT person to manage, delivered the required high availability and scalability, and significantly reduced cost and operational complexity compared with the Hyper‑V plus hardware route.
