A Scale Computing Case Study
Jasper County REMC is a rural electric cooperative in Rensselaer, IN, serving nearly 9,000 meters with a 31-person organization and a one-person IT team. As four aging Windows servers that hosted critical metering and domain services neared end-of-life, IT administrator Jon Rich needed redundancy and high availability but lacked time and expertise to design and maintain a traditional SAN/NAS plus hypervisor environment.
They deployed a Scale Computing HC3 three-node cluster — an integrated “datacenter-in-a-box” that combines servers, storage and a pre-integrated hypervisor with built-in high availability. The HC3 eliminated external SAN complexity and licensing, delivered centralized management and reliable redundancy for the metering application, and gave the one-person IT team a simple, scalable solution that reduced risk and operational overhead.
