Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Canada’s largest trauma centre, wanted to modernize its desktop environment for more than 10,000 staff across three sites while lowering desktop total cost of ownership and improving access for nurses and physicians. Scalar Decisions helped Sunnybrook evaluate a VMware VDI approach to support secure, “always-on, anywhere” access to clinical applications and data.

Scalar Decisions began with a four-week VDI assessment of 400 physical desktops to baseline performance and right-size the design, then implemented a phase-one rollout of 400 nursing workstations using virtual desktops, zero/thin clients, and centralized management tools. The result was minimal impact to end users, reduced boot times, easier administration, and a foundation for future phases that could extend to 4,880 users.
