Case Study: SickKids achieves five-fold HPC capacity with Scalar Decisions

A Scalar Decisions Case Study

Preview of the SickKids Case Study

SickKids - Customer Case Study

SickKids, The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, needed a high-performance computing environment to support personalized medicine research and handle rapidly growing genomics and patient data. Scalar Decisions was selected to architect and implement a best-of-breed HPC data centre, combining compute, network, storage, and management software into a seamless platform for researchers and scientists.

Scalar Decisions delivered a new HPC data centre at SickKids with around 7,000 cores, storage expanded from 550 TB to 2 PB, and an InfiniBand network to support 80 GB/s transfer rates. The upgraded system enabled 145 trillion calculations per second, improved HPC capacity fivefold, and reduced cluster reboot time from 4–6 hours to just 20 minutes, helping accelerate research and patient care.
