City of Airdrie Reduces Total Cost of Ownership with Move to New Switching Environment

The City of Airdrie, a fast-growing municipality in Alberta, needed to reduce the capital and operating costs of its aging networking environment and lower overall total cost of ownership. To address end-of-life infrastructure, QoS issues, and the high cost of PoE-enabled gear, the city worked with Scalar Decisions and evaluated Brocade networking solutions.

Scalar Decisions helped the city pilot a single switch before rolling out a broader upgrade to 14 switches across five departments. The new environment improved centralized management, enabled safer firmware updates with secondary flash rollback, and allowed the city to cut over hundreds of machines with no user impact; it also let the City of Airdrie replace almost twice as many switches within its capital budget while including three years of support.
