A Scalac Case Study
The adtech company Tapad engaged Scala development vendor Scalac to improve the efficiency of its data integration process. Tapad's initial Apache Spark-based ETL process was costly and could not flexibly handle varying data sizes or the diverse requirements of its third-party channels, leading to high memory consumption and poor resource utilization.
Scalac solved this by re-architecting the system with Akka Streams, implementing a resource-safe streaming solution. This approach replaced the Spark cluster, allowing the entire process to run efficiently on a single machine. The results for Tapad, facilitated by Scalac, included significantly lower operational costs, reduced resource consumption, faster processing speeds, and greater resilience against runtime errors.
