Miami-Dade County Uses Scala for Quick Disaster Management Updates

Miami-Dade County’s Office of Emergency Management needed a faster, more reliable way to keep critical disaster and threat information updated during emergencies. It turned to Scala software to replace manual flip charts, dry erase boards, and paper-based updates across its Emergency Operations Center.

Scala implemented a digital signage system that continuously displays live updates on five plasma screens, with operators entering changes in real time for areas such as shelter capacity, public safety, traffic, road closures, and utility outages. The result was uninterrupted, quicker information sharing and a markedly improved ability for Miami-Dade County to gather and disseminate incident status and respond effectively as conditions changed.
