A Scala Case Study
Rugby World Cup needed a way to deliver live scores, statistics, and referee updates to fans across 10 stadiums during the 2003 tournament in Australia. The organizers worked with Scala and its InfoChannel product to support fast, centrally managed visual communications that matched broadcast graphics and could handle real-time data from Unisys.
Scala implemented a portable, operator-friendly system that connected to a secure web source, rendered live information through InfoChannel Players, and overlaid it on stadium billboards and broadcasts. The solution was deployed in under 10 minutes per stadium, enabled on-the-fly content creation and remote updates, and ran flawlessly throughout the event, helping serve more than 1.8 million attendees and the record 82,957-person final crowd.
