Digital Signage Increases Customer Satisfaction and Security on Milan’s Public Transportation Network1

Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM), the Milan public transport operator, needed a better way to communicate real-time timetables, delays, route changes, and emergency alerts across its underground and surface network. As part of the “Transportation Renewal” program, ATM looked to Scala and its digital signage software to help modernize communication while minimizing disruption and improving service, safety, and passenger comfort.

Scala, implemented through M-Cube, delivered a flexible digital signage network that integrated with ATM’s existing systems and could be centrally managed from a control room. The solution is already live in eight underground stations with 25 large LCD monitors, plus upgraded above-ground bus information displays; it supports bilingual messaging, GPS-based arrival data, and emergency functions, helping ATM broadcast multiple messages simultaneously and improving customer information and security.
