Ulster University launches a green ORCHA-rated dementia memory app with Scaffold Digital

The customer, Ulster University, faced the challenge of creating a consumer-grade mobile app that could safely deliver their proven reminiscence therapy for people living with dementia. The app needed to be usable for individuals with varying cognitive abilities, protect deeply personal data, function as a research tool, and meet stringent clinical assurance standards to be trusted in care settings. They commissioned Scaffold Digital to build this solution.

Scaffold Digital developed the cross-platform Inspired app, a digital memory book designed with high-contrast, low-cognitive-load interfaces and built to ORCHA clinical standards from the outset. The solution included offline functionality with optional cloud backup and a parallel research data pipeline. As a result, the app achieved a green ORCHA rating and was approved for the HSC Apps 4 Dementia store. Scaffold Digital delivered a tool that provides a safe reminiscence experience for users and supplies Ulster University with a structured, research-grade dataset for ongoing academic work.
