Case Study: Transmin achieves vibration-resistant, maintenance-free rock breaker positioning with SBG Systems’ Ellipse-A AHRS

A SBG Systems Case Study

Transmin uses SBG Systems’ Ellipse-A to deliver 0.1° pitch and roll accuracy for remotely operated rockbreakers

Transmin, an Australian company providing engineered equipment to the mining industry, faced the challenge of finding a highly precise and robust inertial sensor for its remotely operated rockbreakers. The sensor needed to withstand extreme machine vibrations and harsh desert temperatures while providing accurate arm positioning for its RockLogic control system. SBG Systems provided its Ellipse-A miniature AHRS to meet this need.

The Ellipse-A from SBG Systems was directly installed on the rock breaker arms and interfaced with Transmin's PLC system via CAN Bus. The solution provided precise relative positioning for collision avoidance and required no periodic calibration. This eliminated the need for after-sales maintenance and recalibration, which was crucial for operations in remote mining areas, resulting in a more efficient workflow and significant savings in maintenance costs and downtime.
